They provided helpful information (good readings, conferences), support referrals regarding general adoption (books, counselors/therapists, support groups) as well as specific information regarding transracial adoption (essential for those considering transracial adoption; could have used a lot more, also!). Challenges: lack of detail, at times, regarding paperwork; required group trainings that were light on content (and because the entire adoption group went through the process together, at our branch, it took more time scheduling required trainings, as we had to accommodate multiple persons’ schedules). Biggest strengths: experienced agency (has been around for quite some time) with many experienced social workers who had great wisdom and histories with adoption to share; compassionate social workers who will go out of their way for you; and, to me, most importantly, an organization whose infrastructure is dedicated to supporting BOTH the birth families and adopting parents (as opposed to some agencies that we interviewed who clearly did not provide emotional/psychological support for birth families, nor did they consider this important).

As an older, single woman looking to adopt, I knew I wouldn't be a lot of folks first choice, but she helped me through the process and made suggestions for improving my profile as well as helping me broaden my thinking. This past April, I became Mom to a beautiful baby girl. She's the light of my life! Even when it took a while to be selected, Ashley helped me keep my spirits up. I couldn't have chosen a better agency with which to work.
