The Children's Aid Society

Agency The Children's Aid Society
Agency Description The Children’s Aid Society has been serving children for more than 150 years, a longevity that is a testament to its ability to adapt to the always changing needs of today’s youth. It has continuously been at the forefront of children’s services with such Children Aid initiatives as the first free school lunch program, the first industrial school for poor children, the first day care program for working mothers and the first visiting nurse service. From its first program in 1853 for decent homes and families for the thousands of homeless, abused and orphaned children living on the streets of New York City, it now finds homes for more than 500 children each year, providing through its foster care program specialized services such as Family Foster Care, Medical Foster Care, Therapeutic Foster Care and services for teens "aging out" of foster care.
