| Agency Description | The United Family & Children's Society is a direct descendant of the first private organized efforts to help needy people in the Plainfield, NJ area in 1877, the Plainfield Relief Society, which was established with the philosophy "that the best charity was to aid and teach the destitute to help themselves." The United Family and Children’s Society is a merger of the Organized Aid Association formed in 1893, the Charity Organization Society in 1907, the United Catholic Aid Society and the United Hebrew Charity Organization formed in 1941. Its services are focused on professional counseling to help individuals, children, couples and families cope better with a variety of problems and also provide children's services and special programs, and adoption services to prospective adoptive parents. |
